2017. My Interview at Sheeba Magazin

July 20, 2017

1.

Alexey, could you tell us how did you get involved with photography? When was the moment you realized you wanted to become a photographer?

About 2 years ago, I took a decision to follow my heart deepest calling and start finally doing something instead of constantly dreaming about it.

2.

How has photography influenced or changed you as a person? And…what do you love most about being a photographer?

In my youth I used to go to an art school which was quite successful as some of my paintings were presented at several local exhibitions.

Photography brought me back to art.

My internal goal is to express through photography the ideas that overwhelm me and to reflect the beauty that I see all around.

This self-expression and closeness to art is what I most love in photo.

3.

Are there any photography genres you would like to experiment with more?

Fashion and beauty are my favorite genres ultimately.

4.

How do you keep yourself motivated and your photography fresh? Where do you get your creative inspirations?

I am driven by women's beauty, elegance, and fashion. All this alongside with art helps me to generate some new ideas.

However, I could say that the world around me is the main source of inspiration. Sometime I even cannot sleep because of the ideas tumbling and rambling in my head.

5.

What is your philosophy when it comes to shooting fashions shots?  And what is the impression you want to leave in your photos when portraying women?

Harmony in the image, the correspondence of the look and makeup, the presence of new ideas are my philosophy in fashion shoot.

I am focusing on classical painting, so I aspire to make my images of women worthy of beautiful and charming.

6.

Fashion photography comes with a lot of stress, how do you handle it? What projects do you find to be the most challenging?

During the photo session, I am transformed energetically.
Stress for me is the result of incorrect decisions on the project team and the promotion of the project.

The most difficult projects are when the customer does not know exactly what he wants, has limited budget and timing, and not ready for a partnership to achieve the result.

7.

What from your point of view makes the photo-session successful?

I usually try to pre-plan my photoshoots and in most cases I definitely know what I want to demonstrate to viewer.

Preparation and correct choice of the model makes successful photo session.

8.

Tell us why is having makeup artist, stylist or other professional creatives essential to a photographer?

Makeup artist, stylist allow the photographer to concentrate on the essence of photography.

Photography is teamwork, the final result depends on the professionalism and communication of all participants.

9.

What are you looking for in a fashion model? What is an X factor for you?

I really like broken lines in posing. When I choose a new model for my shooting, I see how the model shows hands and facial expression on the photo.
X factor for me is the talent of the metamorphosis of the model. The model must believe in the image that it lives during the photo session.

10.

What would be your tips/advice to models looking to expand their portfolio?

From my point of view, models should carefully and adequately evaluate photographers for cooperation.

Ideally - to work with talented photographers and invest in the result.

Portfolio of a model directly affects her future earnings.

11.

Alexey, if you had unlimited resources, who or what would you shoot?

If dream, I would like to photograph the Pope, Monica Bellucci, Madonna, Alizee, Laetitia Casta .. in luxurious interiors and all famous places, for example, The Palace of Versailles in a suburb of Paris, The Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, The Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg.

I have enough ideas for a few lives .. I really want to do non-empty work.

12.

What are your top pieces of equipment you cannot live without?

From my point of view, the equipment, of course, is very important .. But the brains and communication with the team make the greatest contribution to the result.

13.

From your point of view what makes a great photograph? How do you choose which images you ultimately provide to your clients?

Ideas, which are incorporated in photo and novelty, introduced by the talent of the team makes an excellent photo.

The photo should be looked at, look at the details and enjoy the quality of the visualization.

The client who comes to me, comes for my vision of photography. Therefore, the choice comes from the photos to which I least want to remake.

14.

In addition to being sharp and well-lit, your photos are beautifully edited. What does your editing process usually consist of? What do you think it delivers in the final image?

Lightroom & Photoshop are the basis for computer retouching.

In the process of photographing, I think over the subsequent processing.

15.

Do you feel Photoshop has created a skewed perception of the ideal body image?

From my point of view, photography should improve the mood of the client. And if for this it is necessary to apply a lot of computer retouching, then this is justified.

I'm very lucky with the models and there is no need for excessive computer-generated plastic.

16.

What roles does internet/social media play in your photography business? Do you think it is effective?

In my opinion, social networks, Internet are an effective means of promotion in the modern world. I have serious hopes of being noticed in the market and implementing international projects.

It is also very important that thanks to the Internet, you can learn and improve your taste and skills anywhere in the world, focusing on the best in the profession.

17.

Any words of wisdom for photography enthusiasts at the beginning of their journey?
